Myth 01: All Bikers Are Criminals
Reality: Although we cannot deny the fact that some biker gangs in the western part of the world are a threat to law and order, the same cannot be said about bikers that respect the law of the land. Biker gangs are not always involved in criminal activities. Especially in India, we hardly come across news reports about rivalries or shootouts among bikers.
Myth 02: Bikers Perform Illegal Stunts
Reality: Motorbike riders are adventurous people. However, they fear for their lives just as much as non-bikers do. Bikers are hardcore travelers who love to explore various regions. They love to ride through different terrains and roads. For example – riding through Leh Ladakh can be termed as dangerously adventurous but those are not illegal stunts.
Myth 03: Bikers Are Rude
Reality: Heavy traveling takes a toll on the health sometimes. The same happens with a biker. If you’ve interacted with a biker and found them to rude, they simply might be tired from a long day’s journey. In fact, being avid travelers, some bikers love making friends and knowing as much information about places and people as they could.
Myth 04: Bikers Have a Lot of Tattoos
Reality: Getting a tattoo is a personal choice. Not everyone is interested in getting their skin inked permanently. There are fierce bikers who do not have a single spot of ink on their body. But then there are also people who are doing a reputed day job but are covered in tattoos. So, it really comes down to personal choice if you want to get a tattoo or not. It is definitely not a criterion to become a biker.
Myth 05: Bikers Roam Around in Gangs
Reality: Won’t you admit that traveling in groups is fun? Some bikers have gangs, but the same cannot be said for all. Some of them prefer traveling alone, exploring the world without anyone, or going on a trip alone just to take a break from their daily lives. Being a biker does not necessarily mean that you have to be a part of a “biker gang.”

Myth 06: Bikers Have Expensive Bikes
Reality: Bikers treat their bikes as their babies. This baby does not have to be an expensive one. Though it could be a dream of a biker to buy a Harley Davidson, all of them do not own expensive bikes from day one. If you want to travel on a bike you can set out on your Bajaj Pulsar or Hero Passion as well. It is not necessary to own a cruiser to be a fierce biker.
Myth 07: Bikers Swear All the Time
Reality: Using swear or curse words depends on personal choice. The most fierce bikers can be polite and choose communicate in a decent language. The more comfortable you are with the people around you, the more you tend to loosen up, talk comfortably and even utter swear words.
Myth 08: Bikers Don’t Have a Day Job
Reality: People who hold a passion for biking come from decent backgrounds who take care of their own needs. Bikers do have a day job and earn well to fund their travel plans. Many of them also financially support their families. Some of them especially take time out of their busy lives to travel on their bikes.
Myth 09: Biker Girls Are Manly
Reality: To handle a bike weighing more than a hundred kilograms needs strength. Biker girls are strong enough to look after their bikes and repair them if required. This strength cannot be deemed as manly, they are as feminine as any other women you happen know.
Myth 10: Bikers Only Listen to Heavy Metal Music
Reality: Personal choice again. Most bikers don’t even listen to music while riding a bike. Bikers don’t necessarily listen to heavy metal, they sometimes prefer soft music while riding into the sunset or along the cost of a long-lost island.
The Bottom Line
Being a biker is super cool! But for that, you need to take care of your bike like a body part. “Taking care” of your bike does not always mean keeping it clean or well maintained. It also means that you financially secure yourself with bike insurance so that you can ride your bike for a very long time without waiting for funds to get it repaired.
